As one rounds the corner and catches a glimpse of this mammoth street scene, it might be tempting to veer off between the painted buildings. Even the shadows make the artwork so lifelike to create a deceptive image and catch one off guard. Note that the direction of the road changes depending on the viewing angle.

Art in this corner was nothing new to painter Tammy Hoppe. When the original building that housed the Corner Café was torn down in 1999, Tammy and her volunteers painted this life-sized mural on the remaining concrete block wall. For the next few years it experienced its share of “weathering,” and in 2005 the Rock Rapids Mural Society asked Ms. Hoppe to restore the scene.
