Twenty or so kilometres east of the City of Perth are the 'Hills' districts, home to people who chose not to live on the 'flat'. Arguably, this area is just a little more creative, arty, and stylish than elsewhere in Perth. One of the facilities in this region is the 'Sole Tree Store & Cafe', an outstandingly good vegetarian restaurant, and supplier of vegetarian goods and services to the community.
The restaurant is located in a small group of other restaurants and shops, set back a little from the road. There is seating for only a dozen or so people, most folk seem to come for the take away and general 'alternative' shopping. While the food is a little on the pricey side (e.g. au$12 for a tofu burger), it is very good. There are no menus as such, signs display the wares available, and you can always negotiate a custom dish with the staff. The food provided is vegan and gluten free food, organic, and fair trade.
The range of other goods for sale is large: organic ingredients, cleaning products, take away food, notice board, books and magazines (shall we say somewhat to the 'left' of the political spectrum). The cafe also runs cooking classes.
Owned by a local woman, who is interested in all aspects of her business and the in the alternative lifestyle movement. Recommended.
