In 1919 a local committee was set up to build a church as a memorial to those men from the District who gave their lives during first world war.
Fund raising was not easy but when it became evident that the money they had raised could not be used for sometime, it was lent to the Maunu Anglican church committee on the understanding that it would be re-funded if it were ever needed. This eventually came about, the additional money was raised and the church was built and opened in early 1928.
