The first Public School in Blacktown.
Blacktown Primary School is the oldest surviving structure in the Blacktown CBD.
The George Allen Mansfield designed school was built on a 2 acre block purchased for the purpose. It and the teacher's residence were finished in 1877 with an additional classroom added in 1882. The detail differences in the wings are the result of the different architects employed for the original (western end) and the later addition.
1915 saw additional classrooms added as enrollments increased. The school was part of the Blacktown District Public School until it was closed in 1990. Some of the newer buildings were destroyed in a fire in 1980 and the remainder demolished for the expansion of the Westpoint Shopping Centre.
The building was refurbished by the Council and now houses the Blacktown Visitor Information and Heritage Centre.
