On March 13, 1928 Eileen Vollick became the first Canadian woman to receive her private pilot's licence. Recalling her first flight, she said, "As I sat in the cockpit I felt quite at home, fear never entered my head."
Numerous companies requested that she demonstrate their airplanes, but she declined their offers. Instead, she took up aerobatic flying and skydiving. Her legacy demonstrated to women that aviation was not only a "man's sport".
"As the winged monster roared and soared skyward the pure joy of it gave me a thrill that is known only to the air man who wings his way among the fleecy clouds."
