The pub was built by Fordham’s Brewery of Ashwell in 1855, and carries the company’s name on the stonework on the front elevation of the building. Originally the pub was called the Leicester Railway Inn, but changed its name to The Nightingale in 1968.

The Nightingale is one of four pubs on Nightingale Road. The pubs were originally called The Leicester Railway Inn, The Railway Junction, The Gloucester Arms and the Woolpack.
