The Parkes Radio Telescope is operated by the CSIRO and is best known for its role in the Apollo 11 moon landing in July 1969. It received the television transmission of the Apollo 11 moonwalk.

There is a visitor's centre, open between 08:30 and 16:15 daily except Christmas and Boxing days, that has displays and interactive exhibits and two theatres that show a variety of astronomy related movies.
