This cemetery was established by Andrew Kerr, a local landowner, when squatters and farmers began moving into the Orange district. He called it Summer Hill Cemetery and it was used for burials prior to the establishment of the Orange Cemetery.
Although the site was renamed Chinamans Bend Cemetery it does not contain Chinese graves but was so called because it is located adjacent to an area used by Chinese market gardeners in the 1890s. While 8 headstones remain it is believed the cemetery contains a significant number of colonial era burials.
