The Confederate Soldiers Monument (or Confederate Monument) stands in front of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where men first signed up for service in the Civil War. The church was the site of annual reunions of Confederate veterans in the early 1900s. Money was raised and the monument was erected and dedicated on August 4, 1910.
A granite statue of a Confederate soldier at rest holding a rifle stands on top of the 4-sided monument. On the front there is a relief of a Confederate flag and inscribed on polished granite is:
THOUGH MEN DESERVE,
THEY MAY NOT WIN SUCCESS.
THE BRAVE WILL HONOR THE
BRAVE,
VANQUISHED NONE THE LESS.
