The park reflects the fact the Milk River area has seen signs of human habitation for some 9000 years. It was not only the valley, but also the hoodoos and sandstone cliffs which captured the imagination of those people. On the sandstone cliffs they left their mark by way of carvings and paintings, what we call rock art or petroglyphs and pictographs today.
To protect these priceless treasures much of the park is accessible only through guided tours, which are typically available during the summer months. Since the park is well off the beaten path, a campground is available for overnight visitors.
