This is one of two Gold Award Projects done at Lake Thunderbird's Clear Bay area. Lake Thunderbird is located east of the University of Oklahoma. The Clear Bay is on the lake's south side, right off of Highway 9.
In addition to the usual lake facilities, there is a nature center, riding stables, boat storage, cafe, and RV park.
This Gold Award Project consisted of installing 24 birdhouses and 4 birdfeeders around the lake's Nature Center. The scout (Emily Schwind, of Oklahoma City) also planted blackberry and holly bushes around the nature center, and conducted a workshop for children to teach them about the lake's wildlife. The bird boxes are easily seen from the back side of the nature center. They are white, and stand out easily among the winter foliage.
The nature center has a wonderful turtle habitat on the lake-side of the building that was an Eagle Project, and another Eagle Project about 120 feet away.
The second Gold Award project here is about 1/5 mile away, on the Clear Bay Trail. It is a bird-viewing wall that has an educational and interactive feature to it.

Based on the date of the awards ceremony, this project was completed sometime in the months prior to April, 2010.
The director of the Nature Center was very happy to help direct me to this Gold Award project, so don't be shy about asking for help if you need it and the facility is open.
