This portion of I-70 was built in the early 1970s. This 'cut' through the foothills revealed millions of years of geological history. In 1971, the Colorado Geological Society developed a series of educational plaques to explain the history that was revealed. The plaques were restored and revised in 1996. The location of this waymark is the first sign of the short trail that explores this topic. Parking is available nearby and there are four spaces reserved for visitors to this point of interest. The rest of the lot is for RTD's Park-n-Ride program. There are lots on both sides (north and south) of I-70, but plaques are only on the north side. (Originally there were also plaques on the south side, but vandalism has resulted in their removal.)
I have tried to take legible photos of each plaque. I will try to upload the photos with appropriate photos to illustrate the plaque.
