The town of Patterson was once home to the largest cypress sawmill in the world. This tree, cut down in 1900, was believed to be over 800 years old. Exact age unknown due to large hollow center. Dates start at 1550 A.D. and are labeled in 100 year increments, with 1776 highlighted and the American Civil War (1860-1864) also noted. The museum also features many items made from Cypress, as well as some of the tools and equipment used to harvest this wood.
