The North Front and South Terrace fountains were originally one piece which was made for the ducal Palace at Colorno, near Parma. It was sculpted by Guiliano Monza in about 1700.
Today the North Fountain depicts marble figures with a Triton and Neried on a shell. Further Nerieds are shown riding sea monsters whilst statues around the fountain watch their activities. The fountain was Grade II Listed on 29th January 1985.

'In Greek mythology, the Nereids are sea nymphs, the fifty daughters of Nereus and Doris. They often accompany Poseidon and are always friendly and helpful towards sailors fighting perilous storms. They are particularly associated with the Aegean Sea, where they dwelt with their father in the depths within a silvery cave. The most notable of them are Thetis, wife of Peleus and mother of Achilles; Amphitrite, wife of Poseidon; and Galatea, love of the Cyclops Polyphemus.'
