Pratu Chum Phon is a gate, in a remaining fragment of a protective wall, which once encircled the city of Korat, when it was considerably smaller than it is now. This old city wall and gate was built during the reign of King Narai the Great, in 1656. Korat at that time was an outpost town in the shape of a rectangle of 1,000 x 1,700 metres.

This gate is no longer functional, however, it has metamorphosed into one of the main tourist attractions of the city. It is located in what is the central park area of the city, a series of cultural and recreational features, directly 'behind' to the east, of the statue of Lady Mo, the saviour of the city.
