Brookside was founded in the 1880's by Russian immigrants seeking a better life mining coal for Birmingham's steel industry. Here you'll see names like Yarchak and Ivanov and see symbols of Russian Orthodoxy on the markers. There are probably 100 graves here and sveral dozen more across the street.
