Kratie is a small town in north east Cambodia, population 10,000 plus. Its leading, if not sole, 'western' cafe is 'Red Sun Falling'. The cafe is on the Mekong River, in strip of small shops. The menu contains a wide selection of western items, as well as Cambodian fare. The cafe also sells English language novels and travel books, plus the staff offer travel advice and assistance, and provide a booking service. The cafe is small, with seating for no more than 30 people. As with most Cambodia cafes smoking is allowed, which can be annoying for non-smokers! The clientele is predominately western, a mix of tourists and a handful of western expats who live or work in the area. Something of a 'hangout'.
The food is well prepared and tasty. If you are desirous of a taste of western provender, and prepared to pay a little more, this is the place to go in Kratie.
