The information sign near this reads:

The "Silver Streak"
This modified Dodge 3/4-ton, 4x4 weapons carrier is linked to the history of Camp Ripley and to its driver, Veryl E. Kalahar. Kalahar worked as a surveyor at Camp Ripley from 1950-1990, minus two years for Army active duty. The truck was issued in 1954 for use by the camp survey crew, and shortly thereafter the carpenter shop crafted a metal cabin to replace the canvas one. With a new aluminum top and a maximum speed for 45 mph, Kalahar named it the "Silver Streak" and the name stuck.

Kalahar drove it constantly for 36 years as new boundaries, roads and ranges were laid out at Camp Ripley. He and the "Silver Streak" were inseparable until well-earned retirement came for both in 1990.

Technical data: The "Silver Streak" is a World War II Dodge WC51 3/4-ton weapons carrier that had been placed back into production in the early 1950's. Weight before conversion 5645 lb; Original engine Dodge T214, six cylinder, 230 cubic inches, 92hp at 3,200 rpm; Cruising range 240 miles, top speed 45mph
