Most spojuje levobrežní cvrt Holešovice a pravobrežní Libní, je po nem vedena silnice, chodník pro peší a dvoukolejní tramvajová trat.
Samotná mostní konstrukce má délku 370 m, spolu se zemní rampou na Holešovické strane pak 780 m, což ho ciní nejdelším silnicním mostem v metropoli. Oproti ostatním starším mostum, které byly stavené se šírkou 16 m, tento už byl o pet metru širší. Po svém otevrení mel již asfaltovou vozovku i teleso pro tramvajovou dopravu.
Betonový most, navržený v kubistickém slohu podle projektu architektu Pavla Janáka a Františka Mencla, má pet kleneb o rozpetí 28 až 42,8 m, na libenské strane pak klenbu jedinou o rozpetí 48 m a ve stredu ostrova je rámová konstrukce o rozpetí 6,2 m. Nahradil puvodní drevené provizorium z roku 1903. Pro verejnost se otevrel 29. ríjna 1928 k 10. výrocí vzniku Ceskoslovenské republiky.
