Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat working in Hungary during World War II. He is credited with using his diplomatic powers and shielding from persecution more than 100,000 Hungarian Jews. He was detained by the Soviet Army in early 1945, and is believed to have died while in their custody.
