The SITE OF THE CONFEDERATE TRAINING GROUND was near Lament and Tennessee Sts. It was also a camp ground of Confederate troops on their way from the deep South to Virginia.

Monument text:
1861. Here was training Camp of Confederate Regiments from the South on their way by rail to Virginia to join General Lee. In front of this marker was the parade ground. Erected by U.C. Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

The old parade ground is now an older neighborhood. Tennessee Street is now known as University Parkway.
