The M880 was basically a 1976-77 commercial Dodge W200 pickup with OD paint. It was used by the Army as a general purpose alternative to its more expensive tactical trucks. It replaced the M37 3/4 ton Dodge truck and was, in turn, replaced by the CUCL 1-1/4 ton Chevrolet trucks in 1980 and the HMMWV. Seven auxiliary kits were available, such as folding troop seats for the bed, 60 or 100 amp 24 volt generating kit, communications equipment kit, and arctic heating kit.
