These old blue town markers are getting harder and harder to find, but this one is very authentic. Usually, these signs have nothing more than the name of the town on them. Therefore, under normal circumstances, a sign like this would have nothing to do with history, but the sign itself is historic and the information on the sign is also of an historic nature. Finally, the sign's location, on the old Lincoln Highway sealed the deal for me. This is definitely a sign of history.
The SOH reads:
Gettysburg - 10
New Oxford
From Ox-Head Sign of Old Inn
And Ford Near Town
Founded
1792
Amazingly, this sign is in great condition. It stands in the ground next to a business and across from a Lincoln Highway marker. The sign is exactly .42 miles from the town square, which is a beautiful rotary marking the center of town along the Lincoln Highway.
