8-inch Howitzer located in the outdoors display area of the Minnesota Military Museum, on the grounds of Camp Ripley near Little Falls, MN. The museum is a treasure trove and a must stop for any history buff. Inside the museum has weapons, uniforms, artifacts and more covering all aspects of military history. Outdoors there are several aircraft, tanks, weapons, vehicles and more on display for the entire family to enjoy.

The information sign for the Howitzer reads:

The M110 was introduced in 1963. It has conventional and nuclear capability, and at 203mm (8 inches) is among the military's largest cannons. It has a crew of 13; the commander, driver, and three gunners ride on the chassis (only the driver has armour protection) and eight others follow in a support vehicle that also carries the ammunition. Shells are loaded into the chamber hydraulically. It can ford streams but is not amphibious.

In the late 1970's, most M110s were given a longer barrel and a muzzle brake to allow it to fire a heavier charge, but the lack of protection for the crew and gun housing remains a major shortcoming. American forces employed it in Vietnam (1965-73) and the Persian Gulg (1990-1991). In the Gulf War, crews had to quickly move their positions upon completion of firing to avoid Iraqo counter fire. The M110 is being gradually phased out in favor of the self-propelled Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS).

Technical Date: Calibur 203mm; Barrel length 30.4 feet overall 32.5 feet; Weight 58,500 lb; Road speed 34 mph, cross country speed 9 mph; rate of fire sustained; 1 round per two minutes, maximum 4 rounds per three minutes; Barrel elevation -2 degrees to +65 degrees, and 30 degrees left and right; projectile range 13.2 miles with conventional ammunition, (18 miles with rocket assisted shells)
