The Ownby House was built in the early 1900's and is one of several historic homes in this area of the city. Broken Arrow is doing a great job of marking these historical and interesting locations with markers and/or plaques. The OK Historical Society/Museum is just down the street from here, on Main at the railroad tracks.
Text on marker:
Ownby-Rutledge House
Dr. Warren Ownby built this house in 1908-09. He was an early Osteopathic Doctor. Phenie Lou Ownby, his wife, was the first and only woman mayor to serve Broken Arrow, the first woman mayor in the state and the sixth in the nation. She was elected in 1931. The Kerm Rutledge Family spent years in restoring the house.
