Located at 400 E. Route 66, at the point where Route 66 enters Chandler from the east, is a Route 66 museum. It is located in a 1937 WPA-constructed National Guard Armory building, which is a treat in itself.
The National Guard vacated the armory in 1971, and after extensive renovation in 2002, the Route 66 Interpretive Center opened here in 2007.
This museum has exhibits and the usual memorabilia of The Mother Road, as well as a gift shop and bookstore. But, they also offer a very unique way to experience Route 66. During the hour-long set of videos, you will be able to actually experience staying in a vintage motel, driving along the highway seeing the billboards and neon signs, experiencing the Dust Bowl days, the Chisholm Trail Cattle Drive, and seeing the Oklahoma experience from the 1920s to the present day. This virtual tour will leave you feeling like you've definitely "gotten your kicks on Route 66."
