In Dover, on Springdale Avenue, there is a small municipal open space by the name of Channing Park. In the park is a shallow pond that is used for fishing in the warmer months and skating in the winter months. In fact, a granite bench beside the pond that is dedicated to a son shows images of hockey skates and a fish, thus showing how much that pond meant to the son and family.
The park has a gravel parking lot next to the pond, and picnic tables and benches on the grassy area also by the pond.
On the third weekend in April a fishing derby is held, open to ages 18 and younger. In the winter, the pond is maintained by the Department of Park and Rec for skating, though it is still 'skate at your own risk.'
