Langford is first mentioned in 944 AD. The name Langford, as the sign suggests, means long ford.

At the top of the sign is the parish church of St Andrew. Much of the imagery alludes to Langford’s historic past and its dependency on agriculture. On the bottom left panel is Langford Mill on the River Ivel.

Regrettably there is no plaque on the sign to indicate when it was erected.
