Originally dedicated when the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County opened its doors in 1913, the Rotunda, crowned by a stained glass skylight, is one of the Museum's most elegant and popular spaces. The skylight is composed of 16 curved panels, is 24-foot-wide and weighs approximately 3,200 pounds.

The rotunda went thru an extensive restoration in 2010. The sagging skylight was cleaned and repaired to a startling brilliance when compared with photos of the unrestored glass. "When you walk in, your eyes are taken up and there's kind of an exclamation point. The glass acts as a crescendo of what the space is." This hall is among the most distinctive locales in Los Angeles and has often been used as a filming location.
