The village sign depicts the legend of Jack O’Legs who is buried in the churchyard at nearby Holy
Trinity Church. It is reputed that Jack O’Legs,
an accomplished archer, requested to be buried wherever his arrow fell. His
arrow apparently travelled the three miles from Baldock
to Weston. The full legend of Jack O’Legs is
told in WM95PH.
On the wooden post of the sign there is a plaque telling the
story of Jack O’Legs and also a commemorative
plaque providing the history of the plaque. The plaque reads:-
