The old Waipu Fire Station still takes pride of place as an art gallery which provides the public with a unique atraction.

In 1957, on the site of the old butchery, a fire station was erected for the Waipu volunteer fire brigade. In 1991 a new fire station closer to the centre of town was built. This building has been preserved and now a private residence in the back. The front is used as an art gallery and a shop selling art deco wares.
