As you enter Garber traveling North of State Highway 74, the first thing you see is a sign saying "Welcome to Garber - Home of Champions - Pride of the Prairie - Frontier of the Future."
Garber is a town of approximately 820 people, on Highway 74 in northeastern Garfield County. This area was opened for settlement during the Cherokee Land Run of 1893. The town was formerly called McCardie, but renamed Garber after a long-time local resident.
Garber began as an agricultural area, with the Czech and German settlers raising wheat, vegetables, and livestock. In the early 1900s oil was discovered nearby and the resulting boom brought Garber's population to 2200 by 1920, which has slowly diminished to the 820 today.
The Garber Wolverines football team has been Class B State Champions for the last two years, and the Wolverine basketball team was Class A Champion in 2010. This town has reason to be proud of the Maroon and Gray.
