There are two bridges over the Mekong, from the city of Phnom Penh proper, to the still uncompleted (2016-7 is the plan) elite new, shiny suburb of Diamond Island. At the first bridge the security guys chatted to me, ask me where I came from, and encouraged me to take all the pics I wanted. 100m down the road, at the second bridge, which is to say this bridge, the security guys entirely forbade me to take any photographs, and watched me suspiciously as I drove on and around the bridge. Go figure. Thus, only photos from a distance.

This bridge has a more interesting design than its companion bridge. It is a single strut bridge, but the strut is in the form of a giant, golden bird. My Cambodian informants tell me that this is the "King Bird"—I am sure that a deal of meaning is lost in this translation. I have seen images of this bird elsewhere in Phnom Penh. Irrespective of the cultural background, the 'bird bridge' is striking in appearance. This bridge, also like its companion, is a low usage bridge, only two lanes, with provision for foot traffic.

This bridge, like its companion, runs from the 'good' parts of Phnom Penh, on the river, to the island (this bridge runs close to the Australian embassy, clearly the best part of town).
