The Court Theatre opened in 1945 replacing an earlier theatre that had burned to the ground. Seating 535 with a classic Box Office, mosaic floor entry, and large marquee, the building is designed in the Streamline Moderne style. The Architect was Vincent G. Raney, a designed of several West Coast theatres. The owners were the Court Family who ran theatres in other nearby towns.
The Court was shut down in 1977 and remained vacant for years. The City of Livingston is currently planning a complete restoration and fund raising is ongoing. According to the city's web page "The total cost of this restoration and associated construction activities is estimated between $6.5 and $7.5 million. The City of Livingston plans to restore the theater for use as a multi-purpose city facility for cultural and community events. The facility will include meeting rooms, classroom and office space, to be used by many of the service agencies in Livingston.
A lively discussion regarding the theatre can be found on the Cinema Treasures Page.
