There are two cannons, both on caissons, on display in Travis Park in downtown San Antonio. The street address of the park is 711 Navarro, San Antonio, TX 78205. One is to the right and one to the left of the Confederate Civil War Monument. The one on the right is where the coordinates were taken. This cannon has some stamped inscriptions around the muzzle that is partially discernable. The right-side cannon reads, "No. 126, 1223Lbs., T.J.R. 1862." The second cannon on the left-side of the monument reads similarly as: "No. 287, 1223Lbs., T.J.R., 1862." Both cannons appear to be made of bronze or brass and in good condition. The wheels to the caissons are bolted to the concrete and there are several padlock on various parts of the caissons. For Civil War era cannon, these are large field cannon that would have been hauled by horse or mule by the artillery companies on bout sides of the conflict. The Park Police patrolling the area said there used to be more cannons around the monument but all but these two have been removed over the years. This park, the monument and the cannons are accessable to the public at any time and there is no fee or charge to visit Travis Park. This park is one of the older parks in San Antonio and has the distinction of having had the first dedicated monument of San Antonio placed in it. See WM9KRG and WM9KRT.
