Pioneer Cemetery is at the Grand Canyon Village, at the South Rim. It is located near the Park Office, Mather Amphitheater, and about a 10 minute walk from the rim trail. The cemetery is a few hundred feet north of the Grand Canyon Village store and post office.
The monument is about 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide. It is made of stone, with large stones and concrete for the base, and the main structure tapered slightly at the top. The top level is completely flat. The plaque is centered on the main stone face, and two flags are placed at the front of the monument.
The war memorial is the largest of the monuments/headstones in the cemetery, and you will have no trouble spotting it. I love the various colored stones making up the main structure, and the unusual completely flat top.
The cemetery entrance is a beautiful stone and wood arch. There is a very large and usually vacant parking lot close by.

Description of Memorial: Located in the Grand Canyon's Pioneer Cemetery (south rim), this War Memorial is easy to spot because of its size among the smaller headstones.
We came here to find some famous graves of Grand Canyon pioneers, and were pleased to see a War Memorial here as well.
