Built between 1933 and 1935, this is the highest point of the highest paved moutain pass of Austria! The Edelweissspitze is about 70m higher, but is only a dead end street and does not belong to the original moutain pass.
In ancient times also the roman people used this pass to reach the other side of the alps! Today, the border line between the federal states Salzburg and Carinthia is in the middle of this tunnel!
The waymark can only be visited between May and October in the times between 9am and 8:45pm!
Type of documentation of superlative status: Homepage of the operating company of the mountain pass
Location of coordinates: Entry to the Tunnel
