Rydal Hall and grounds surround the bridge. Public can walk across it and visitors to Rydal Hall and patrons can drive their cars across. Rydal Hall has been lived in by Le Fleming family for 400 years. In 1960 Diocese of Carlisle bought the hall and grounds.
Further downstream there are the remains of another crossing structure, but little is known about that. Looking underneath the bridge, it is one complete span that has not been widened, suggesting it was originally built this wide to accommodate wheeled carriages. Often parapets were added much later.
Downstream is overgrown with foliage and needs a trim before winter floods.
