Torbay resident Sarah Brill's sculpture Unfurling Shore came out on top out of 32 entries in the Mairangi Bay Arts Centre public sculpture competition.
Sarah Brill is a contemporary New Zealand Artist who is steadily gaining recognition in the art world. She strives to create artwork which is innovative, unique and appealing to a large audience. Not only does she want her work viewed within Gallery spaces, she also wants it to be exhibited in Public. She wants to entice more people to enjoy art.
Many of Sarah’s sculptures are kinetic, powered by the wind. The tall stainless steel forms seem contradictory in nature as they gracefully sway in the breeze.
Sarah began making her wall works to prove to her printmaker friend that the metal plate on from which they take their image was as beautiful as the final result, a print on paper.
She devised a technique to delicately etch her image onto Aluminium enabling it to be exhibited both indoors and outdoors.
One of the delights of Sarah’s artwork is that the seemingly hard, often masculine materials are manipulated to create a surprisingly delicate effect.
