The building stands at a dizzying 975 feet tall. The building incorporates eco-friendly technologies. The Center is also the tallest “green” building in the country. The Comcast building received one of the highest green certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council, making it the tallest LEED certified building in the nation. The building is located at 1701 John F. Kennedy Blvd. The groundbreaking was in 2005 and it opened in 2008. The engineer for this building was Robert A. M. Stern Architects.
The 58-story building received LEED Gold certification for the building’s core and shell from the national organization. The building, which stands 975 feet and totals 1.25 million square feet, was constructed by Liberty Property Trust (NYSE:LRY) and is Comcast Corp.’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA,CMCSK) headquarters.
Some of the features that make it green include using 40 percent less water than a typical office building, with fixtures that save more than 3 million gallons of drinking water annually and waterless urinals in all restrooms that save 1.2 million gallons.
In addition, a shaded plaza reduces the heat-island effect caused by pavement by 70 percent and the so-called low-E coating on the curtainwall glass blocks 60 percent of heat while allowing in 70 percent of the sun’s visible light, reducing energy used for air conditioning while using natural light to its fullest.
