This small, nearly 100 year old church is a very active part of the community. It is also known as the Welfare UMC.

Located at the heart of the Verga section of West Deptford Township, this church has stood on this ground since 1917, with only a few cosmetic changes to the outside of the building. This was not always a UMC church, however. It started as the First Union Church in 1917, and held services first in a tent purchased by the Verga Fire Company before they bought the lot where the current building resides. This church was completed in 1918 and the first services were held there on January 20 of that year.
In 1922, the church's Board of Trustees voted to affiliate themselves with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and has remained so since then. The church building, especially the sanctuary, remained untouched since 1922 until 2003-04 when renovations were made to the church to provide some much needed upgrades.
The church is very active in the community, providing meeting spaces for organizations (I used to have Scout meetings here) as well as contributing to many charities and providing community activities as well.
