Located near the Tea Pavilion and Japanese Friendship Garden in San Diego's Balboa Park, this monument depicts a music book opened to a page for the song "San Diego the Beautiful" with words in English on the first page. The first page continues with Japanese characters which presumably are the translation of the English text on the second page :
"This plaque, a replica of the one in
Yokahama, has been presented to the citizens
of San Diego to mark the twenty-fifth
anniversary of our sister city affiliation.
The song engraved on it "San Diego,
the Beautiful" is the theme song of the
Yokohama-San Diego Friendship Committee,
and is well known by the citizens of
Yokohama. We hope that the citizens of
San Diego will also come to love it and
and that it will echo across the Pacific as
a symbol our everlasting friendship.
