Barr Trail was built by Fred Barr in 1921. The trail is 12.6 miles long, and connects the town of Manitou Springs at 6500 feet elevation with the summit of Pikes Peak, at 14,000 elevation.
Once a year, in mid-August, the trail is used for the Pikes Peak Marathon, in which the runners use the trail twice, round/trip, plus an extra mile of streets in the town of Manitou Springs to complete the full marathon distance.
Parking for this trail head is available on the summit of the peak. Note that the road to the summit is a toll road, costing $10 per person in the vehicle.
A metal rusted sign indicates the trail head, located just 10 meters East of the tracks of the cog railway.
A pleasant location on the trail is Barr Camp, a cabin which provides food and overnight accommodations.
Trail allowances or restrictions: Foot travel and mountain bicycles are allowed
