This building should not be confused with the Union Bank Tower, an 11 story skyscraper built in 1904 that is only 200 meters north at 504 Main St at William Ave.
The Union Trust Tower has a steel frame which is clad in terracotta and marble. The window and door frames are bronze. The main floor, finished in carved marble and brass with ornamental plasterwork and rich detailing, has survived in near perfect condition. The banking hall is now a jeweller’s store.

Marker Text: After the Nares Block collapsed during construction of the Canadian Bank of Commerce in 1911, the site was acquired by the Union Trust Company. Plans for the steel-framed Union Tower were prepared by Chicago architect John D. Atchison. Based on the "Italian Renaissance" style, the verticality of the skyscraper is emphasized through the use of pilaster which frame pairs of windows.
