This is one of many stones used to mark the "corner" points on the boundary lines between towns in Massachusetts, in this case, the Town of Hamilton and the Town of Ipswich. The letters "H" (for Hamilton) and "I" (for Ipswich) are inscribed on opposite sides. It is approximately eight inches square and eighteen inches high. At some point in the past, an orange stripe was painted around the top of the marker. Although weathered, some portions of this paint can still be seen.
The marker is located 0.3 miles west of Sagamore Street. Starting about 1.3 miles from Route 22, follow your GPS from Sagamore Street west through the forest to the marker.
The next adjacent marker heading southeast is
Hamilton-Ipswich 4 WM, 0.3 miles.
To reach the next adjacent marker heading northwest, the town line runs 304° 18' true for 1018 feet to the center of the Miles River. It follows this river downstream to the junction of Long Causeway Brook.
Hamilton-Ipswich 6 is an unmarked corner at this stream junction. From here the line turns left to follow the center of Long Causeway Brook upstream to
Hamilton-Ipswich 7 WM.
