One of the earliest reports (I can find) of a baseball game being played at this park was on May 9, 1914, when there was actually a royal visit to the park by The Duke of Connaught and his daughter Princess Patricia (Brantford Expositor, May 9, 1914, p. 1 and Brantford Expositor, May 11, 1914, p. 1).

The Duke and his daughter were met at the Grand Trunk station by several thousand people. He inspected the Dufferin Rifles' guard of honour and the boy scouts, and then they traveled to Agricultural Park where a baseball game was being played.

It is safe to assume that it was in fact the Brantford Red Sox playing because the team was formed back in 1911, and has a very rich history, and many championship victories.

A plaque in front of the Stadium states that the Cockshutt family generously gave Agricultural park (as it was originally named) to the city of Brantford as a memorial to their father, Ignatius Cockshutt. The park eventually became known as Cockshutt Park.

Cockshutt Park is named after Henry Cockshutt, a son of Ignatius Cockshutt and Elizabeth Foster. Henry was born in Brantford, worked in the family business (Cockshutt Plow Company), where he became president of the company, and eventually chairman of the board. Politically, he was elected to the Brantford City Council, and later on was elected mayor. He was President of the Canadian Manufacturers' Association, fought in World War I, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, appointed lieutenant-governor of Ontario, and also served as Chancellor of the University of Western Ontario.

In 1998, the Arnold Anderson Stadium was named for long-time local CKPC Radio sports broadcaster, Arnold Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a fan favourite, and covered local sports events for fifty years.
