This area is locally known as The Dell. An excavated area consisting of steep muddy slopes and banks, surrounded on all sides by trees and wooded area. The Dell area is within the confines of Paul's Land, a 30 acre recreational area and public space. The space consists of playing fields and park land. This land is so called because it was bequeathed to the people of Nuneaton by the Paul family, the previous owners.
The Dell area was thought to have been created by excavating earth that was subsequently used to level the playing fields which are adjacent to this area. There are football and cricket pitches.
Prior to 1930, this area was all part of a quarry.
As of 2020, The Dell is very overgrown and over the years nature has been allowed to take its course. It's no longer possible reach the interior of The Dell but there are still good paths around it.
