Bronze bas-relief plaque located on the east railing of the Michigan Avenue bridge. The central portion pictures an Indian guide, the two explorers, and five voyageurs within their canoe.

Inscribed text reads:
"In honor of Louis Jolliet & Pere Jacques Marquette. The first white men to pass through the Chicago River - September 1673. This tablet is placed by the Illinois Society of Colonial Dames of America under the auspices of the Chicago Historical Society - 1925."
This is one of two bronze bas-relief plaques placed by this organization located on either railing of the walkways of the Michigan Avenue bridge, honoring European explorers who passed this way in the late 1600s. Things around here certainly have changed a lot since then!
Photography can be difficult due to narrow walkway and heavy foot and car traffic.
