Ninety percent of this 750 acre park is a mature oak forest. Rocky Ridge was acquired in 1968, making it the first county park. It is perched on a rock-strewn hilltop northwest of Hallam.

The posted coordinates are for the parking area. At this point there is a playground, a pavilion and an observation deck, all the familiar trappings of a park. But, this park is anything but that. Built on a mountainous area, the park features a multitude of trails, cliffs, fitness trails, ball fields and two observation decks and incredible breath taking views from two observation decks.
There are over twelve miles of trails open to hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers. Trails are closed to horseback riders and mountain bikers during "wet conditions," as determined by Park Rangers.
Every year the park sponsors and event called "Christmas Magic". It is pretty amazing; I have seen it several times. This will be the twenty-seventh year they have done it. To off set the cost, there are many sponsors. Christmas Magic is a 0.5 mile long walking trail (accessible to anyone) that meanders through 400,000 Christmas lights, holiday scenes and five enclosed heated pavilions. The spirit of the Holiday is displayed by using animation, displays, Santa Claus, food and G-gauge train display. The trail sits among a mature oak forest nestled on a quiet mountaintop.
