ST. ANDREW'S CATHEDRAL (Roman Catholic), 7th and Louisiana Sts., was probably the first large building in Arkansas to be constructed of the granite-like syenite that is quarried near Little Rock.  The structure is of English Gothic style, its vertical aspect emphasized by an octagonal steeple and buttresses that terminate in pinnacles.  Completed in 1882, the cathedral succeeded a frame building at 2nd and Central which since 1845 had been the seat of the Arkansas diocese.  The history of the Roman Catholic church in Little Rock, however dates back to 1830, when Father Donnelly said the first Mass in a temporary chapel over a store at 2nd and Main Sts. - Arkansas: A Guide to the State, Little Rock section, pg 177.

Saint Andrews Cathedral continues to serve as the seat of the Little Rock Dioese.  The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.  The building is well maintained and has several services each week.
